William Ashby

Mr. William Harold "Bill" Ashby, 84, passed away February 12, 2021, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. He was born August 19, 1936, in Stokes County to the late Early William Ashby and Elsie Woods Ashby. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of Shattalon Church of Christ. He was an avid gardener, growing and sharing vegetables and roses with many. Bill loved music and “talent scouting” for Roy's Folks. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Marianne W. Ashby and a brother, Paul Dean Ashby and his wife, Jean. He is survived by two daughters, Andrea Ashby of Raleigh and Rebecca L. Ashby of Winston-Salem; four siblings: Fran Sevits (George) of Sanford, Elwood Ashby of Walkertown, Ray Ashby (Ann) of Winston-Salem, and Ron Ashby (Helga) of Tupelo, MS; nephews, Tim Ashby, Andy Ashby, Randy Wood, and Bill Sevits; nieces: Deanna Sevits, Amanda Belding, and Allison Edwards; special friend, Mary Lawson; and a host of cousins and friends. A private graveside service will be conducted for the family. Following COVID-19 and current health guidelines, the family will hold a large Celebration of Life to honor Bill, at a later date.
