Whitt Avery Smith

Mr. Whitt Avery Smith, 68, passed away July 2, 2015 at Hinkle Hospice House. He was born March 23, 1947 in Forsyth County to the late Herbert Hampton Smith, Sr. and Alice Everhart Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of Immanuel-New Eden Moravian Church. In the 1970's he owned and operated Old Town Texaco and in the late 80's and early 90's Whitt's Automotive and later started working at Owens-Illinois where he retired with 15 years of service. He is survived by his daughter, Lindsay Denise Smith; two grandsons, Gabriel and Daniel; two brothers, Herbert Hampton ""Jr."" Smith and Diana and Thomas A. ""Tommy"" Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, loving family, and many friends. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Kevin L. Kilbreth officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Immanuel-New Eden Moravian Church, 3680 Old Lexington Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107 or to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
