Mr. Wesley Filmore Sloop, 95, of Winston-Salem, died Friday, May 8, 2009 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Salisbury. He was born June 10, 1913 in Wilkes County to William W. Sloop and Victoria Billings Sloop. Mr. Sloop was a member of Old Town Baptist Church. He was a life-long truck driver, and after retirement enjoyed gardening, wintering in the Florida Keys, and reading his Bible. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Mamie Sloop; four brothers, Eugene Sloop, Arlie Sloop, Dean Sloop and John Sloop; and two sisters, Inabell Foster and Mae Combs. Surviving are one son, Ben Wesley Sloop and wife Betty of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Angie Sloop Bell and husband Ashley of Advance and Lisa Sloop Snell and husband Jonathan of Charlotte; three great grandchildren, Madeline Grace Bell, Carson Snell, and Brianna Snell; two brothers, Clyde Sloop and Alvin Sloop; two sisters, Rosalee Brooks and Kathryn Nelson. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 11 at Mountlawn Memorial Park in North Wilkesboro with the Rev. Dr. Rick Speas officiating.
