Wesley Clyde Hunter,Jr.

Wesley Clyde Hunter, Jr., who was 90 years old died on September 19, 2008. He was born in Clemmons on January 19, 1918 to Grace Strupe Hunter and Wesley Clyde Hunter, Sr. He was a life long resident of Forsyth County. He was preceded in death by his brother, F. Eugene Hunter and sister, Dorothy Hunter. Nothing was more important to Wes than his family, his loving wife of 67 years, Hill Alspaugh Hunter; daughter, Janet Hunter Frenck and husband Henry; son, David Hunter and wife Judy; grandchildren, Jennifer Hunter McDuffie and husband John, Eric Frenck and wife Alisa, Brian Frenck and wife Amy; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Nicholas McDuffie, Ellie and Ian Frenck, and Liliana Frenck; his sister, Betty Hunter Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews. ""W.C."" graduated from Clemmons High School and Draughn' s Business College. He worked for Export Leaf Tobacco Co. from 1936 until he retired in 1976. He was a bookkeeper and an office manager. Accuracy was his forte. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served primarily on air bases in southern England. He achieved the rank of Captain. Wes was a life long member of Clemmons Moravian Church, where he served on boards and in many other capacities. ""Granddaddy"" traveled thousands of miles to participate in his grandchildren' s lives. He was always happy to attend soccer games, tennis matches, plays, graduations, and weddings, including going to Brian' s California wedding when he was 89. His first great-grandchild was born when he was 84, and of course he drove to Charlotte the next day to see Jennifer and her baby, Hunter. He loved music, especially Moravian band music. He played baritone in the Clemmons Moravian Band for over fifty years. He was the band director for many years. He also played in the Clemmons High School Orchestra, and the Old Town Concert Band. He loved the hymn ""A Closer Walk With Thee,"" especially when he heard it played by his grandson Eric in the JMU, marching band. We know he is having a closer walk right now. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22 at Clemmons Moravian Church with the Rev. Ray Burke officiating. Burial will follow at the church graveyard. The family will receive friends after the service in the Fellowship hall. Memorials may be sent to Clemmons Moravian Church at P.O. Box 730, Clemmons, N.C., 27012 or to the charity of your choice.
