KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Wenona Smith Baker, age 88, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from complications of colon cancer at her home in Arbor Ridge. Mrs. Baker was born on July 14, 1925 in Forsyth County, a daughter of the late Dean and Madie Pell Smith. She was a member of Saints Delight Primitive Baptist Church, a homemaker and mother who loved to sew, knit and crochet beautiful items.
Wenona was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Baker in 1999 along with two sisters, Maree Hartman and Jeanette Denny.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Harold Hayes of Greensboro, GA; a grandson and wife, Devon and Beverly Hayes, of Frederick MD; a great granddaughter, Kylie; and a great grandson, Kendall Hayes.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 at Saints Delight Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery by Elder David Hogan . The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Saints Delight Cemetery Fund, c/o Terry Motsinger, 270 Motsinger Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27107 in her honor. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
