Wayne Bennett Young

Mr. Wayne Bennett Young, 72, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Young was born in Iredell County on October 29, 1937 to the late Bennett and Pauline Washam Young. He graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 1961 where he was a right handed All-American baseball pitcher. Mr. Young was a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1973, where he was very active in the church. He retired from Winston-Salem Sanitation division after numerous years of service. Mr. Young was preceded in death by his wife Karen C. Young and a sister Janice Johnson. He is survived by a son Mitchell W. Young and wife Cheryl of Winston-Salem; and two grandchildren, Paige and Blake Young both of Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be conducted 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Dr. Mark Harris officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
