Wayne Franklin Vestal, 82, was born in Asheboro, NC, September 27, 1933. He died Friday, July 22, 2016 peacefully at his home from complications of heart disease. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvah Franklin Vestal and Fleta Brown Vestal and his brother, Max Brown Vestal. He was a graduate of Asheboro High School, Elon University, and UNC-Chapel Hill. He served in the US Army and was a member of the Third Division and 283rd Army Bands. He worked for 16 years in the Asheboro City Schools as a teacher and administrator. He served as Assistant Dean of Continuing Education at Guilford Technical Community College for 24 years and retired in 1995. In Asheboro, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and a life member and past president of the Asheboro Jaycees. He was a charter member of Pinewood Country Club. After moving to Winston-Salem in 1979, he became a member of the Wake Forest Deacon Club, Piedmont Civitan Club, Wilshire Senior Golf Association, and the North State Choral. He was a volunteer at Forsyth Medical Center for 21 years and was a member of Knollwood Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Betty Davis Vestal; daughters, Sandi Dawkins (Randy) of Granbury, TX and Angela Cooper (Craig) of High Point, NC; grandsons, Carson Dawkins (Sarah) of Trinity, NC and Patrick Dawkins of Rapid City, SD; step-daughter, Kelli Clark (Perry) of Winston-Salem, NC and step-son, Phil Chase of Raleigh, NC; grandsons, Stuart, Chase, and Wells Clark of Winston-Salem, NC and granddaughters, Ashley Stephens (Timmy) and Kaylee Chase of Raleigh, NC; niece Ellen Gangway; nephews Mark and Eric Vestal; and sister-in-law Girleta Vestal. A memorial service will be held by Dr. Bob Setzer, Jr. on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Knollwood Baptist Church with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, ""Warriors for Wells"" (in honor of his grandson, Wells Clark), 7101 Creedmoor Rd., Suite 130, Raleigh, NC 27613.
