Wayne Edward Hackett, 75, passed away March 2, 2020 at Wake Forest Baptist Health. He was born April 20, 1944 to Perry and Lillian Hackett in Forsyth County.  Wayne was a talented athlete. As a young man he traveled with a local softball team, earning the nickname, “Boomer” for hitting the ball out of the park. His family says that Wayne never met a stranger. He will be lovingly remembered for his friendly, outgoing nature. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by brothers, Perry Hackett and Gerald Hackett; and a sister, Betty Carter. Surviving are his son, Eddie Hackett (Teresa); the love of his life, Lucy Crews; grandchildren, Kimberly Boger (Jay), Coty Hackett (Allison), Timothy Hackett (DeAnna), and Grayson Hackett; eight great grandchildren; and brothers, Don Hackett and Norris Hackett. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, March 6, 2020 at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
