Mr. Wayne Leroy Brown, 80, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born January 16, 1944, in Morgan County, Alabama to the late Marvin Otto Brown and Maybelle Johnson Brown. Wayne was a standout three sport athlete at Morgan County High School. His true love was football where he played multiple positions and obtained the nickname “swivel hips”. In high school that is where he fell in love with a cheerleader, Oralean Johnson. After high school, he attended Jacksonville State University. In addition, he was a contractor that worked on NASA’s Saturn V rocket. Wayne worked for the Boy Scouts of America for 35 years where he served in multiple positions such as district executive, assistant scout executive, and finally director of field service. In Boy Scouts, Wayne was affectionately known as “Bubba”. After retirement, Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition, he was an avid Alabama Football fan and tried to watch every game. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Elijah Dowell. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Addie Oralean Johnson Brown; three children, Natalie Grubbs (Lance), Danielle Dowell (Charlie), and Marc Brown (Doniel); and five grandchildren, Kelby Lemons, Ryan Lemons, Phoenix Lemons, Gabrielle Dowell, and Stella Brown. We love you Pops, Roll Tide! A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday January 27, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Bro. James Reams officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Saturday January 27, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Old Hickory Council or the American Diabetes Association.
