Waymoth ""D.C."" DeHart, 89, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, June 19, 2015.
D.C. was born August 14, 1925 to the late Andrew Jackson DeHart and Nola Slagle DeHart. A WWII veteran, he received a Purple Heart for his service in the 24th Infantry Division in the Philippines. D.C. retired from McLean Trucking after 35 years of service, and then moved to Carolina Beach where he and his wife, Thelma, lived for 20 years. While there, they enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR. He was a member of Faith Missionary Alliance Church of Winston-Salem and Carolina Beach. D.C. was preceded in death by Thelma, his beloved wife of 69 years, and grandson, Gerald DeHart.
D.C. is survived by sons, David DeHart (Brenda), Richard ""Ricky"" DeHart (Becky), and Jay DeHart (Peggy); daughter, Debbie Taylor (Kent); grandchildren, Kelly Vannoy (Barry), Chris DeHart (Tammy), Danette Lance (Eric), Kevin DeHart (Jennifer), Stacey DeHart, Keith DeHart (Anna), Jerry Whaley (Nikki), Barbara McCall (Randy), and Brian Taylor; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of D.C.'s life will be held Monday, June 22, 2015 at 1 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Palliative Care Nursing Staff at Forsyth Medical Center for their care of D.C. during his illness.
