Mrs. Wanda Mecum Dixon, 81, a loving wife, mother and grandmother has gone to her final resting place, Wednesday, May 19, 2021. She was born on February 19, 1940, in Forsyth County to the late Ira Mecum and Opal Collins Mecum. She worked as a nurse and as a lab technician for R.J. Reynolds for 25 years. She had a love for travel. Her and her husband traveled the United States on a motorcycle, visiting 48 states and Canada. She also had a green thumb. Wanda was very passionate about growing and cultivating flowers, especially orchids. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, William Jackson Dixon and three siblings, Faye (Jack) Holloway, Bonnie Jean (James) Chapell, and Lib (Doug) Speaks. She is survived by three children, Karen Gregory, Chris Dixon (Tammie), and Susan Hinson (Tina) and five grandchildren, Bria Nance, William Dixon (Heather), Richard Dixon, John Shipton (Heather); Nicholas Gregory and 4 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude for the caregiver’s support during mom’s illness. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
