Walter Raymond Young, 96, of Winston-Salem passed away on August 6, 2015. He was born Jan. 12, 1919, in Marion, Ohio to Benjamin and Anna Young. As part of the ""Greatest Generation"" he was reared during the Great Depression and entered the U.S. Army shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor and was later assigned to the Army Air Corps and sent to the South Pacific where he served in the Philippine Islands and New Guinea. He retired from the Prudential Insurance Co. of America. Mr. Young was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a Bible study teacher for over 50 years. He was married to Louise Tibbals Young for 62 years, prior to her death in 2003. Surviving are their two sons, Dennis Young and wife, Ellen of Wallace, and Stephen Young and wife, Rosalind of Pinehurst; three grandchildren, Allison Baise and husband, Mitchell of Winston-Salem, Stephanie Bryant and husband, Thomas of Creston, and Dennis Jr. and Wendi of Riverview, FL; and four great-grandchildren, Mallory and Tanner Baise, and Shanly and John Bryant. A memorial service for Mr. Young will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Chapman officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
