Walter Sink, 89, passed away on May 9, 2013. He was born on June 8, 1923 in High Point, NC to Walter T. and Nina Mae Sink. He graduated from High Point College with a degree in chemistry and immediately entered the Navy during WWII where he served in the Pacific Theater on the Destroyer Escort USS Albert T. Harris. He moved to Winston-Salem with his family in 1959. His career was spent as Water Quality Control Supervisor for the City of Winston-Salem from which he retired after 33 years of service. His retirement was spent creating small wooden craft pieces, which his wife, Diane, painted and sold at craft shows. He loved playing golf until his legs would no longer support him, but his great joy was fishing with his family. He fished every chance he could, and when he couldn't make it to the lake he always had a good fish story. He was able to continue fishing until 3 weeks before his passing and told fish stories until the very end. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Diane Byrd Snyder Sink in 2004; and sisters Margaret Sink and Elsie Mae Sink. He is survived by his son James W. Sink and his wife Beverly of Asheboro and granddaughter Holly of Winston-Salem; and son Murray T. Sink and his wife Gale of Lewisville, grandson Matthew and his wife Anna of Durham, and granddaughter Jessica of Burlington. The family would like to thank the staff at the Brian Center for taking such good care of him while he was a resident there. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 14 2013 at 3:00 pm at Burkhead United Methodist Church, 5250 Silas Creek Pkwy. Family and friends will be received after the service.
