Walter L. Rogers

WESTFIELD Mr. Walter L. Rogers, 92, a resident of Walnut Cove Health Care in Walnut Cove and formerly of the Asbury Community in Stokes Co. passed away Thursday evening January 12, 2012. He was born July 4, 1919 in Patrick Co., VA to the late Willie and Viola Hill Rogers. He moved to the Asbury Community as a child and was a lifelong resident of Stokes County. Mr. Rogers was a retired tobacco farmer who loved to golf, hunt, fish and enjoyed visiting and fellowship with all he met along his life's journey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Etta Arrington Rogers, a daughter, Elaine Rogers Pell, a brother and three sisters. Mr. Rogers is survived by his two sons, Samuel W. (Joan) Rogers of Mount Airy and Jimmy D. Rogers of Greensboro, six grandchildren, Lisa (Allen) Rogers Stowe of Denver, NC, Darren (Angela Shoffner) Rogers of Kernersville, Amber (Richard) Rogers Twigg of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Sandra (Tony) Rogers Bedikian of San Diego, CA, Diane Rogers of Greensboro and Richard (Karen) Pell of Westfield, ten great-grandchildren and many close friends and relatives. Funeral services for Mr. Rogers will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2012 at Asbury Presbyterian Church, 1084 Flippin Rd. Mt. Airy, NC (Asbury Community) with Rev. Terry Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon - 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
