Walter Edward Orrell

Mr. Walter Edward Orrell, 91, died peacefully at home on October 31, 2012. He was born October 11, 1921 to Benjamin Stacy Orrell and Flora Howard Orrell. He was a member of Mocks United Methodist Church. He was the owner and operator of Orrell Produce and Tar Heel Banana Company until his retirement in 2004. He was known to many up and down the east coast as 'The Banana Man'. He loved spending time with family and friends. Saturday morning breakfast at his church was something he really enjoyed. He had a unique love for his fellow man and never met a stranger. Over the years he actively supported the Advance Fire Department and Mocks United Methodist Church. He was blessed with an especially giving heart. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings; Alton Orrell, Charlie Orrell, Kenneth Orrell, Lucy Gunter, and Ruby Blackburn. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Lucille Foster Orrell and his three children; Doug Orrell of Advance, Binny(Ginny) Orrell of Charlotte and Ann(Ben) Browder of Advance. Six grandchildren; Binny Orrell II, Tom Browder, Angie Browder Slabach all of Advance; LuAnn Browder Parker of Peachtree City, Georgia; Jarod Orrell and Megan Orrell of Charlotte, NC. Thirteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He was affectionately called 'Pappoo' by his grandchildren and others. He is also survived by two brothers; BS Orrell of Maggie Valley, NC, Frank Orrell of Winston Salem, NC and one sister Betty Arnold of Orlando, Florida. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A. M. Friday, November 2, 2012 at Mocks United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
