Mr. Walter Harvey Neal, 85, of Walkertown, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born August 4, 1937 in Forsyth County to the late Walter (Jack) Smith Neal and Pearl Warren Neal. Harvey retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 38 years of dedicated service. Later, he worked part time for 16 years for Modern Chevrolet where he delivered parts throughout North Carolina. In early years he installed Beam central vacuum systems. Harvey was a lifelong resident of Walkertown, living just a short distance from where he was raised. After growing up on the family farm, he continued his love to work the land by planting a plentiful garden each year. He was an excellent handyman who often used his skills to help neighbors. Harvey loved nothing more than getting his family together to catch up and to enjoy a good home-cooked meal. He especially loved these times during the holidays which has been a family tradition for decades. He was a lifelong member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, where he served on a variety of committees over the years, lastly being the Cemetery Committee. He was a faithful Christian, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great friend to all he met. He will be deeply missed throughout all of our hearts. In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Neal Harrison, and three brothers, Dewey Neal, Troy Neal and Raymond Neal. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years; Jeanette Bowman Neal; two daughters, Tracy Neal Vogler (Steve) and Dana Neal Whitney (Robert); four grandchildren, Zachary Gregory Vogler, Taylor May Whitney, Brooklyn Faith Whitney and Robert Allen Whitney, V; two sisters, Wilma Neal Hendrix (Harrison Krites) and Kathryn Neal Sell; and numerous dearly loved nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 3:00pm at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Coppley and Samantha Wesley officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 3:00 pm in the Church Sanctuary. A graveside will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morris Chapel United Methodist Church at 2715 Darrow Road, Walkertown, NC, 27051. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
