Walter Eugene Miller, Jr.

Walter Eugene (Gene) Miller, 83, formerly of Kernersville, NC and Fuquay-Varina, NC, went to spend eternity with his Lord Jesus on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. After a brief 2-year health battle following a stroke, Gene passed away peacefully in Raleigh, NC. 

Gene was born February 8, 1941, in Spartanburg, SC to the late Walter Eugene Miller, Sr. and Juanita Wheatley Miller of Arcadia, SC. He is a graduate of Fairforest High School, class of 1959.

Gene began a long career in the textile manufacturing industry in his early 20’s. He worked at bleacheries, hosieries, dyehouses and chemical and dyestuff suppliers in the industry for close to 40 years. He retired from Ciba Specialty Chemical Company in High Point, NC in 2002.

By far, the greatest love in Gene’s life was his relationship with his Lord Jesus. He spent time almost every day reading his bible and praying for his family in the early morning hours. Another love in his life was his family. He talked often about everyone in his family, past and present, often expressing pride and love for them. He will forever be known for his sweet disposition, the kindness that he showed to everyone that he came in contact with, and his infectious smile. He enjoyed watching and following most all sports and was always seen in either a Gamecocks or Dodgers ballcap. Gene was also known to family and friends as a connoisseur and locator of the best BBQ and hot dog joints throughout the Carolinas. 

Gene is survived by his son, Nathan Miller (wife Louanne) of Willow Spring, NC; grandchildren Reese Miller (wife Rachel) of Fletcher, NC; Cameron Miller (husband Will) of Presidio, TX and Hallie Miller (husband Chase) of Morrisville, NC; sister June Emery of Anderson, SC; great grandchildren Nora Jane and Charlotte Rose of Fletcher, NC.

Gene has been reunited with his wife of 54 years, Willette Miller, who preceded him on April 7, 2018, and with his son, Eddie, who preceded him on December 7, 1987. 

A memorial service will be held 11am Friday, January 31, 2025, at Apex Baptist Church, 110 S. Salem Street, Apex, NC 27502. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. 

In lieu of flowers, the family would like for donations to be made in Gene’s honor to Meals on Wheels at Senior Services, Inc., 2895 Shorefair Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
