Walter Loveland

Walter David Loveland Sr. of Ararat, Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thanksgiving morning, 2021 at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife, Alma, their four children, Patricia & Robert Lohmeyer, Joanne Loveland, Walter Jr, & Renee Loveland and James & Kathleen Loveland, seven grandchildren plus their spouses, and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Walter was born in South Jersey in 1933 to John and Mamie Loveland and grew up on a farm. He worked full time at Lurex as a laboratory glass blower for over 40 years. In 1969, his glasswork was used in the first trip to the Moon to collect rock samples. He also worked part time as security police at the Bank of Elmer, NJ. Walter loved being a volunteer forest firefighter. After moving to NC, while he was a member of Kerwin Baptist Church in Kernersville, he had the opportunity to serve with the Heart With Hands Ministry in New Orleans to help with the Hurricane Katrina clean up and also in New York at Ground Zero with the 9-11 clean up. He was an American Red Cross Hero with an amazing lifetime donation of 59 gallons of blood and platelets. Walter enjoyed fishing, hunting, carpentry, camping, and solving puzzles. He never met a stranger, had a servant’s heart and always knew how to make people smile. During the last few years of his life, he was a member of Unity Church in Ararat, Virginia.
