Mr. Walter Harrison Craver, Jr., 92, of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022 at his home. He was born June 10, 1930 in Forsyth County to Cassie Shoaf Craver and Walter Harrison Craver, Sr. Mr. Craver graduated from Clemmons High School and later joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He served on ships that transported refugees from North Korea to South Korea including the 100,000th refugee and family. Walter was a lifetime active member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church, where he served as church trustee, worked with the Mens’ Breakfast, was a Lovefeast server and a member of various Sunday School classes. He was a Boy Scout Leader with Troop 712 and Troop 715 for 38 years earning and receiving several awards. Walter loved to travel and after retirement with 31 years of service from Piedmont Airlines, he was able to go to all 50 states. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, wood working and spending time with family. During his time in the Navy, he learned about weather and could always name the clouds. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Virginia Voss and a nephew, Marvine Voss. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Rose Cozart Craver who were married on July 12, 1958. Also surviving are his children, Cozetta C. Slamp (Rick), Dean H. Craver (Lisa) and Walter “Wally” H. Craver, III (Kim); four grandchildren, Amanda Hauser (Justin), Jacob Craver, Abigail “Abby” Craver and Sydney Craver; two great grandchildren, Matthew Hauser and Eleanor Hauser; a sister, Dorothy Craver and a nephew, Michael Voss. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2022 at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with Bishop Sam Gray officiating. Interment will follow in the church graveyard.
