Walter Rodger Catron

Mr. Walter Rodger Catron, 82, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Forsyth Medical Center. Rodger was born in Grayson County, VA on January 25, 1934, to the late Robert Wesley Catron and Nannie Dixon Catron. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Rodger was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service and retired after 39 years of service. Rodger was a member of Piedmont Pioneer Masonic Lodge #685. He was a Master Mason, having recently received his 50 year pin. Rodger was a loving and devoted member of Old Town Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rosa Lee Akers and a brother, Charles Catron. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Christine Robinson Catron of the home; two daughters, Staci Catron Gibson and husband, Ricky of Glen Allen, VA and Amie Catron of Greensboro, NC; one grandson, Porter Gibson of Glen Allen, VA; his step-mother, Emma Jeane Catron of Independence, VA; one brother, June Catron and wife, Elizabeth of Galax, VA; one sister, Anna Lou McCreary and husband, Bill of Mt. Airy, NC; a sister-in-law, Beverly Catron of Independence, VA; one brother-in-law, Carl Akers of Galax, VA; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Old Town Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Speas officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 pm at Monta Vista Cemetery in Galax, VA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday at Old Town Baptist Church. Rodger was a loving and devoted husband, father and Pa-Pa. He had a servant's heart and loved the Lord and his church. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
