Wade Eugene Zimmerman, 74 of Enterprise Rd. in Arcadia and recently of Britthaven of Davidson, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, July 2, 2009. Mr. Zimmerman was born August 31, 1934 in Davidson County to Russell Wade Zimmerman and Inas Kimel Zimmerman. On March 24, 1956 he married Jane Anderson. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years; his son, Jeff Zimmerman and wife Cindy; and his daughter; Lucinda Zimmerman Black and husband Randy; all of Lexington; grandchildren, Danielle Zimmerman, Ryan Zimmerman, Cameron Black, and Lauren Black. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Zimmerman Nifong and husband Russell of Winston-Salem; and brother, Rev. Eddie Zimmerman and wife Pat of Blountville, TN; along with many special nieces and nephews. Mr. Zimmerman attended Arcadia High School where he was senior class president, FFA president, and Capitan of the basketball team. After graduation, he attended North Carolina State University. He spent his career as a department supervisor and manager at R. J. Reynolds. Mr. Zimmerman was a loyal and dedicated company man known to his fellow co-workers as ""Mr. Z"". Upon retirement he enjoyed spending his time farming with his wife and selling their produce at the Winston-Salem Farmer's Market, as long as his health allowed. Mr. Zimmerman was actively involved throughout his years with Mt. Olivet Church, serving as Lay Leader, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, choir member, member of the Administrative Board, Council on Ministries, and United Methodist Men. He was also very involved in many civic organizations with being a lifelong member of the Arcadia Grange and an active member of the Arcadia Lion's Club where he served in numerous positions in both clubs. Other past civic activities include serving as a charter member of the Arcadia Civic Club, an active member of the Lexington Utilities Board, a member and board member of the ARCH Fire Department, president of the PTA at Arcadia and North Davidson Jr. High and a member of the Advisory Council of Northwest Elementary School. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, where he was a lifelong member. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Norwood Green and the Rev. Ray Surratt, followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel and other times at the home. The family would like to thank the staffs at the Elms at Tanglewood, Britthaven of Davidson, and Hospice of Davidson County, for all the love and care shown to Wade and his family during his illness. They would also like to thank the many friends and neighbors who meant the world to Mr. Zimmerman throughout the years. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt.
