Wade Bennett passed away peacefully on February 6, 2021. Wade was born in Surry County on July 19, 1932 to Clarence Edward Bennett and Lucy Bertie Reeves Bennett. Wade worked 35 or more years with Western Electric from where he retired. He was a longtime member of Becks Baptist Church where he served faithfully. Wade was an avid Tarheel fan. He was a loving husband and father, and he took great pride in being a “Papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wade will be remembered for a lot of things but mostly for his sweet gentle spirit, his kind ways, his love of food, and his awesome hugs. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sons; Greg Bennett and Jeffrey Neal Bennett, three sisters; Opal Landingham, Vivian Darr, and Lois Wofford. Wade is survived by his wife of 67 years Carolyn Billings Bennett, one son Steve Bennett (Debbie), five grandchildren; Stefanie Lyons (Ricky), Jeff Bennett, Audrey Stewart, Will Bennett, and Ally Bennett, 8 great-grandchildren and one sister; Wilma McDaniel. A graveside service will be held Tuesday February 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Becks Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. TJ Morrison officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Becks Baptist Church, 5505 Becks Church Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 or Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC, 27030.
