OAK RIDGE-Wade Harlee Apple, 85, passed away Monday, July 13, 2009 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. He was born August 13, 1923 in Guilford Co. to the late John Bentley and Ila Banks Bartee Apple. Wade was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge. He was a WWII United States Army veteran and retired from Sears & Roebuck after 30 years of service. Wade was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved woodworking. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, and two sisters. Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Evelyn Combs Apple of the home; one daughter, Susan Allen and husband Claude of Oak Ridge; one son, Garfield Apple and Sherry of Kernersville; five grandchildren, Chad Apple and wife Jennifer, Brad Apple and wife Jamie all of Oak Ridge, Ryan Apple and wife Dana of Greensboro, Trinity Spurlock and husband Eric, and Megan Beck and husband Mike all of Kernersville; nine great-grandchildren, Courtney, Jake, Kelly, Garfield, Sophia, Wade Apple, Maggie and Miller Beck, and Kaydence Spurlock; his twin brother, Wayne Apple of Oak Ridge; one sister, Marie Parker of Kernersville. A funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 pm Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Bethel United Methodist Church with Pastor Danny Miller and the Rev. Robert Busch officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Community Meals On Wheels Attn: Ruby Lawrence, 7924 Highfill Rd., Summerfield, NC 27358 or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 612 Pasteur Dr. Suite 409, Greensboro, NC 27403.
