W. Allen Green

Mr. W. Allen Green, age 82, passed away Monday, October 6, at home. He was born May 10, 1926, to Charles R. Green and Dorothy Staley Green and was a US Navy Veteran of WWII and the Korean conflict. He was a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church. Mr. Green retired after 38 years of service with Southern Bell and had been a member of Telephone Pioneers and Toastmasters International. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing, and he also swam many laps at the YWCA in Winston-Salem for many years. Mr. Green was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Crane Green, in November 1994; two brothers, Richard and Maurice; a sister, Johnsie; and a son-in-law, Denny B. Cottingham. He leaves behind a brother, Hubert S. Green of A.p.o.p.k.a., Fla.; sister, Irma Gustafson of Tauno, VA; and brother, Fred McNeil of East Machias, Maine. In addition he leaves behind four loving children: Terry A. Green and wife Marybeth, of Harrodsburg, KY, and their children Larissa, Anneke, Travis, Susannah, and Lianna; Cheryl G. Cottingham and her son Michael D. Cottingham and wife Julie, of Kernersville, NC; Steve Green and wife Ann, and their son Matthew of King, NC; Rick Green and wife Lynnette, and their daughters Diana and Ashley of Advance, NC. Mr. Green also leaves behind his most devoted and faithful companion, Midog. A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Worth Green, and the Rev. Dr. David A. Marcus, on Friday, October 10, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at New Philadelphia Moravian Church, Winston-Salem, NC. Burial will follow in the Church graveyard. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 9, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Silas Creek Parkway.
