Virginia Widener

Mrs. Virginia Nell Calloway Widener, 94, Passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018 in Winston-Salem. She was born on July 16, 1923 in Wilkes County to W.A. and Mabel Burton Calloway. Mrs. Widener graduated from Gray High School and was a faithful member of Pinedale Christian Church. She retired from the Veterans Administration and had also worked for about 20 years for Hanes Knitwear. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Dexter Widener, as well as all of her siblings, four sisters, Ann, Lillian, Ona, and Polly; and two brothers, Bob and Ralph. She is survived by her three children, Sandra Lynn Widener, Judith Gail Widener, and William Jeffry Widener and wife Jonia; two grandsons, Gregory Scott Widener and wife Monica, and Steven Cory Widener and wife Ashley; and three great-granddaughters, Madison Grace Widener, Audrey Leigh Widener and Cara Anne Widener; and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Pinedale Christian Church with Bill McKenzie officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pinedale Christian Church, 3395 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
