Virginia Lee Taylor Watjen, 97, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at her home.
She was born on December 17, 1927, to the late Davis Jackson Taylor and Mamie Elizabeth Knight Taylor in Lee County, NC.
Virginia worked at Forsyth Medical Center as a nurse assistant for over 18 years, before retiring early in her career to care for her mother. She was a devoted member of the Baptist faith, attending church when she was able, before her health no longer permitted. Virginia loved pizza and butter pecan ice cream. She was simply a joy to be around with her sharp wit, funny personality, and a beautiful smile that always reached her eyes. Virginia never met a stranger, and her kindness made others feel comfortable in her presence.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was also preceded in death by her husband, Russell Estes Watjen; brother, Jerry Taylor; and sisters, Helen T. Hill and Betty T. Wade.
Those left to cherish her memory include her brother, Rex June "JD" Taylor; sons, Anthony Van Turner and William B. Newsom, III; daughters, Sharon T. Jenkins (son-in-law, Bill Jenkins) and Virginia Elizabeth Newsom; and Tyger, the cat.
Although Virginia is gone, she will live in our hearts forever.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 12:00 PM, at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, with Rev. John Bishop officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 377 Hospital Street #103, Mocksville, NC 27028.
