Virginia Smith Schmitz

Ms. Virginia Smith Schmitz, 93, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Forsyth Medical Center.  Virginia was born in Forsyth County on September 15, 1930, to the late Redden Smith and Jessie Mae Culler Smith.  She was a faithful member of Lutheran Church of the Epiphany in Winston-Salem.  Virginia had a strong work ethic, holding various jobs throughout her long career, retiring in her mid 80’s.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters and one grandson, Jeffrey Patrick.  Virginia is survived by her children, Theresa Hill and Richard Schmitz; three grandchildren, Jessica Patrick, Jaclyn Schladt (Ronald), and Jasmine Andes; five great grandchildren, Kaleb, Nakaya, Fey, Jeffrey, and Danny; and one sister, Carolyn Sebastiano.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Lutheran Church of the Epiphany with Pastor Russell Peek officiating.  Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Lutheran Church of the Epiphany, C/O Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, 5220 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.  Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Ms. Schmitz.  Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
