Virginia Rose

Mrs. Virginia Finney Rose, 93, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

Virginia, affectionately known as “Sis” to her friends and “Mud” to her family, was born in Baltimore County, MD on March 25, 1928 to the late Dr. John Miller Train Finney, Jr and Virginia Milton Finney.

Virginia devoted her career to her work as a registered nurse, retiring from Rex Hospital in Raleigh. She also worked with ESL students, winning the Governor’s Award for English as a Second Language tutor in Raleigh.

Virginia was an avid gardener and an excellent tennis player. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially time spent with her grand and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. I. Woodall Rose, Jr.; and five siblings.

Surviving family includes her son, I. Woodall Rose, III (Jane) of Hillsborough; two daughters, Missy Rose of Cleveland, OH and Linda R. Dixson of Winston-Salem; two grandsons, Philip M. Dixson (Mandy) of Advance and Matthew W. Dixson (Rebecca) of Winston-Salem; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ida Mae Williams for the loving care she showed to Virginia and her family during her illness.

At the family’s request, services will be private due to COVID.
