Virginia Ball Owenby

Lewisville - Virginia Ball Owenby, 86, went to be with the Lord on March 30th, 2014.

She was the youngest of six children born to Bricey and John E. Ball on May 9th, 1927. She is preceded in death by her son, Steven D. Owenby. Surviving are her grandchildren, Stephanie and her husband, Carlos Mejia, of East Bend, NC, Jason Owenby and his wife, Chrissie, and one great-grandchild, Dakota Owenby, and Steve's wife, Debra Owenby of Lewisville, NC. A nephew whom she raised, Thomas Bryson and his wife, Sandra, of Candler, NC and their children, Kenneth and Teresa Bryson and their three children, Keith and Dana Bryson and their two children, along with five other nieces and nephews.

A resident of Lewisville, NC for 30 years, and a native of Asheville, she retired from American Enka after 35 years of service. She retired and continued to work as a private nursing assistant to several different families. She also baked her famous orange slice cakes and was owner of Virginia's Bake Shop. She was a member of Center Grove Church for many years. She loved animals and baking.

The family wishes to thank Debra Owenby, her loving caregiver, the nurses on the Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center, and the caregivers at the Danby House in Winston-Salem. The family would also like to thank Sherri Royall and Senior Services of Winston-Salem for their help.

A visitation will be held 6-8PM Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. Services to follow at Groce Funeral Home in Asheville, NC.
