Virginia Lake Hughes

On May 7th, 2015, Virginia Faye Lake Hughes went to be with the love of her life, her husband of 63 years, Gordon B. Hughes, who passed away on February 2nd, 2015.

Virginia was born on March 8th, 1929 in Beda, KY to Thomas Franklin Lake and Flossye Stewart Lake. She loved her ""old Kentucky Home"" and was a proud Kentucky Colonel. Virginia attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1951. While there, she met that ""tall, lanky guy from Wyoming"", named Gordon B. Hughes. They were married September 2nd, 1951 in Nashville, TN.

Virginia was the quintessential homemaker and took great pride in her role as wife and mother. While raising her family, she also enjoyed her 12:01 Bridge Club, Neighborhood Club, and Lady Lions. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed various needlework projects, as well as quilting. She loved to entertain - being the ""hostess with the mostest"".

Together with Gordon, she enjoyed The Deacon Club and Wake Forest athletics, Bon Vivant Dinner Club, and dancing at the Twin City Club. After their children were grown, they began traveling the world making friends wherever they went. They were active members of Knollwood Baptist Church since its inception in the 1950s.

Virginia is survived by two daughters, Patty Hughes Stone and husband John of Kernersville, NC, and Mary Beth Hughes of Tallulah Falls, GA; son, Bruce Hughes of Nashville, TN; grandsons, Jay Stone and wife Chelene, Thomas Stone and wife Heather, Tyler Cottrell and wife Jessica, Nate Bundrick, and Eli Bundrick; granddaughters, Sarah Stone Cunningham and husband Andrew, and Eliza Hughes; and great-grandchildren, Kaidyn Stone, Ivee Stone, Lillian Stone, Jack Stone, Georgia Cunningham, Leena Bundrick and Monroe Cottrell.

A celebration of Virginia's life will be held Monday, May 11th, 2015 at 1 pm at Knollwood Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Setzer officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

The family requests that any memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center or the charity of the donor's choice.
