WINSTON-SALEM - Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, received Virginia Lea Sexton Howell into heaven on Monday, May 23, 2011. A kind and caring soul that the Lord blessed C.N. Sexton and Virginia Sexton with on January 26, 1958, in the city of Fayetteville, NC. Lea graduated Parkland Senior High School, Class of 1976, a member of Who's Who among American High School Students and was an avid Mustang supporter. She was most recently employed by T. Bagge-Merchant in Old Salem. She also worked in several retail shops including Hines Shoes, Mayberry Ice Cream Shoppes and various shops in Hanes Mall, all in Winston-Salem. Lea was extremely active in the life of her family. Growing up she constantly supported the activities of her siblings. She attended many baseball games at South Little League cheering for her brothers. She later became one of the first female coaches associated with the league of coaching girls' softball. She was known as âAuntie Lea' to her girls, and made a positive impact on many young ladies lives. In her adulthood, Lea was known to celebrate life to the fullest by decorating for all the holidays. Lea collected and made various craft items to bring joy and happiness to all of those around her. Lea knew how to bring out the children in all of us, and loved to see the sparkle in the eyes of the ones she did this for. Lea's home was known to be decorated for every holiday, especially for Christmas, as she would have multiple Christmas trees and a countless number of angels spread throughout the home. She put others first while here on earth, she is now in heaven looking down over her loving family, including her husband of 23 years, Johnny Howell of Winston-Salem; her mother and father, Virginia and C.N. Sexton of Winston-Salem; her many brothers and sisters, Sandra Allen, husband Richard of Clemmons, NC, Bill Thornton, wife Diane of Emerald Isle, NC, Bobby Sexton, wife Donna of Clemmons, NC, Jimmy Sexton, friend Meredith Simpson of Spring Hill, TN, Timmy Sexton, wife Kim of Lewisville, NC, Clemie Sexton, wife Loraine of Calhoun, GA, Dale Sexton, wife Mary of Amite, LA, and Lynette Cason of Colorado. Lea is also keeping a special eye on 10 nieces and 3 nephews. Lea will be dearly missed by her family, by those who knew her through various associations, and by those who enjoyed her celebrations of life. A graveside service will be held at 11 am Thursday, May 26th at Parklawn Memorial Park with Dr. Ken Bradstock officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday, May 25th at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel in Winston-Salem, NC. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to Kate B.
