GUNNELL - RURAL HALL On January 21, 2012, Virginia Hicks Gunnell, went to join loved ones who have gone on before her to a world without pain. Virginia was born June 10, 1926 to the late Will and Flora Cox Hicks. Others who predeceased Virginia were her husband and true love of her life, Fletcher Gunnell; two daughters, Brenda Gunnell and Ann Anderson; two brothers, Luther and James Hicks; a sister, Betty Hicks; grandson, Dale Yokeley; granddaughter, Jennifer Gunnell; and a great-grandson, Drake Ethan Barringer. Those left to cherish the memories they have of Virginia are her three daughters, Fay (Fred) McKeithan, Carol (Mike) Montgomery, and Linda (GG) Fie; two sons, Edward (Vicky) Gunnell and Glenn (Kay) Gunnell. Also left to cherish their time together and precious memories are 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two great, great-grandchildren; as well as, three brothers, Bud (Myra) Hicks, Homer (Shirley) Hicks, and Robert Hicks. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Brims Grove Baptist Church in Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, January 23 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, P.O. Box 863, Walnut Cove, NC 27052; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to an organization of the donor's choice.
