Virginia Ruth Smith Cockman

KERNERSVILLE- Virginia Ruth Smith Cockman, 85, passed away Friday, June 10, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Virginia was born May 22, 1926, in Guilford County to the late Luther Daniel and Lottie Britt Smith. She devoted her life to her husband, children, grandkids and great grandkids. Virginia's nurturing spirit and unconditional love will be forever remembered. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Paul Cockman; and a brother, Andrew Smith. Surviving are three daughters, Dawn Henry (Tim) of Charlotte, Anita Mintz (Dave), of Kernersville and Beth Collins (Tony), of Kernersville; two sons, Daniel Lee Cockman (Claudette) of Durham and Jerry Paul Cockman, II of Kernersville; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three sisters, Katherine Brande, Grace O'Brien and Mary Combs, all of Greensboro. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2011 at Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. Our many thanks to the service and dedication to the care of our mother from the staff of WFU Physicians and Wake Forest Baptist Health.
