- Mr. Virgil Tillotson Needham, 88, of Winston-Salem, passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2009. He was born in Stokes County on November 20, 1920 to the late William Daniel and Lillie Hudson Needham. Mr. Needham was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the National Guard for 13 years. He worked at Doby's Bakery and retired from Holsum Bakery after 50 years and was a member of the Salvation Army Church for 61 years. He will always be known for his exceptionally generous and kind heart and helping others, never saying anything negative about anyone. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois June Martin Needham. He is survived by his children, Susie Gratz, Vickie Spainhour, Ricky Needham, Tina Everhart (Tony), Timothy Needham, Sandy Needham (Polly), and Debbie Swaim; eight grandchildren, Lynn (Ronnie) DeViney, Glenn Gratz, Dustin (Krystal), James ""Bo"", and Daniel Swaim, Patrick, Christopher, and Benjamin Needham; five great-grandchildren, Mikala Childress, Leland DeViney, Danielle, Dylan, and Presley Swaim; a sister-in-law, Eula Needham; and several special nieces and nephew. A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at The Salvation Army Worship Center on Broad Street with Lt. Robert Long officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
