KEY - WINSTON-SALEM Virgil Manuel Key, 92, of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born April 9, 1921 in Surry County to Albert Wilson Key and Stacey Jackson Key. Mr. Key was a WWII veteran. In addition to being an avid motorcyclist, he also loved gardening and spoiling his grandchildren. Mr. Key was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Melvin, Wayne, Bishop, Gray and Marvin; and two sisters, Kate Key Simmons and Alma Key Cook. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Tilley Key; a son, Eric Key of Winston-Salem; daughter, Zelda Colbert and husband, Phillip of East Bend; two grandchildren, Shannon Colbert and Andrew Colbert; one brother, Albert Wilson Key Jr.; many nieces, nephews and extended family; and also, his faithful little dog, Toby. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 26 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Pastor Mark Elmore officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 25 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Kate B.
