Virgil Preston “Spec” Hartgrove

RURAL HALL Mr. Virgil Preston ""Spec"" Hartgrove, 82, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013. He was born September 20, 1930 to the late Rufus Oakley and Mary Salley Hartgrove. Spec retired from Vulcan Materials Co. with 37 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Preston Hartgrove and two brothers, Bob and John Hartgrove. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Hutchens Hartgrove; a brother, Charles Hartgrove; a sister, Annette H. Preston; two sister-in-laws, Nancy E. Hartgrove and Gladys Breeden; and his special companion, Snoopy. A graveside service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, Canton, OH 44720 or American Heart Association, 202 CentrePort Dr., Suite 100, Greensboro, NC 27409.
