Virgil Davis

Walkertown - Virgil Wallace Davis passed away Monday, February 7, 2022 at Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center after many years of declining health. Virgil is survived by his faithful wife and superb caregiver of forty eight years, Tamara Dodson Davis; his daughter, April Kettering and son-in-law, Mike Kettering, and his only grandchild, Henry, whom was his PaPa’s greatest joy.
Virgil was born March 5, 1952 in Winston-Salem to the late Clate and Grace Caudill Davis. He graduated from North Forsyth High School in 1971 and was self employed. In 1990, Virgil was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and years later suffered a stroke during an emergency craniotomy. This didn’t stop him from living a full and wonderful life. Prior to his poor health and cognitive disabilities he was an avid outdoorsman and hard worker. Thanks to Tamara, his family and Virgil’s determination, he was able to travel to his families beloved home place in Sparta, NC and many family functions, always living each day to the fullest. He had a garden every summer, loved classic country music, old cowboy TV shows and NASCAR racing.Virgil was a lifetime member of Love’s United Methodist Church in Walkertown. The family would like to thank all of Virgil’s caregivers and the staff of Intermediate Critical Care at Kernersville Medical Center. In addition, the family is especially thankful for his long term personal caregivers, Mr. Christopher Hemphill, Mrs. Cindy Harris and Ms. Lia Holman.
With social distancing observed and masks requested, a funeral service will be held 4:00 PM Friday, February 11, 2022 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Daniel Martin and Rev. David Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to Forsyth County Senior Services @ senioservicesinc.org or Senior Services Inc., 2895 Shorefair Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 or to Allegheny Cares, P.O Box 1655, Sparta, NC 28675
