Mrs. Violet Garris Gordon, 89, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Gordon was born on November 25, 1925, in Forsyth County to the late William J. Garris, Sr. and Myrtle Reich Garris. She worked at Hanes Hosiery and Pleasants Hardware Store. Mrs. Gordon attended Rescue House Church in Winston-Salem. Violet was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She always put her family and friends before herself and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by her husband, Gray Howard Gordon. Mrs. Gordon is survived by two daughters, Linda Gordon Wilhelm (Wayne) of Winston-Salem and Phyllis Gordon Cromer (James) of Bethania, NC; four grandchildren, David Alan Cromer (Petra) of Pfafftown, NC, Kevin Wayne Wilhelm (Monica) of Rural Hall, NC, Jennifer Lea Cromer of Pfafftown, NC, and Jeffrey Lee Wilhelm (Christie) of King, NC; nine great-grandchildren, Bailey, Sophie, Josie, Kaya, Zoe, Evan, Jacob, Jesse, and Cody; and one brother, William J. Garris, Jr. of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Chaplain Randy Hillman officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff on the 9th floor at Forsyth Medical Center for the compassionate care they provided to Violet during her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
