Vernon 'Mac' White

KING Mr. Vernon ""Mac"" White passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Universal Health Care in King. Mr. White was born in Stokes Co. on November 23, 1927 to the late Walter Wilson White and Velva Ashby White. He worked and managed area service stations until his retirement. Mac always put friends and family first and enjoyed helping others. He was a great dad and hard worker who loved his family and friends dearly. Anyone who ever met Mac and knew him for any amount of time would quickly realize his good nature and outgoing personality. Mac set the absolute best example as a father and husband, providing for his family with honesty and care, while teaching respect for others. He proudly served our country during WWII in the United States Army. Mac enjoyed playing cards, fishing, his pets, watching Gun Smoke, Bonanza and Wheel of Fortune. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Daphine Gillespie White, a son, Stephen Wayne White, three brothers and a sister. Mac is survived by his son, Donnie White and fiancé Melissa Fleming of Germanton, and a daughter-in-law, Becky White Tennant and husband Terry of FL. PaPa Vernon is also survived by his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at King Community Church Cemetery in King with Rev. Derrick Hinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 this evening Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or King Community Church, 849 Meadowbrook Dr., King, NC 27021. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the friends and caregivers who spent time with him when he could no longer drive. The family will always be especially grateful for the love and care he received at Hospice and Universal Health Care in King.
