Mr. Vernon Gray Norman, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born August 26, 1930 in Forsyth County, the youngest boy of nine children to Cora Stella Livengood Norman and Lucius Calvin Norman. Vernon graduated from Old Town High School where he played basketball, football and baseball. He was offered a scholarship at Appalachian College in 1950 to play basketball and football. He began his first year playing both sports but was called for the Army for 2 years, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict, where he was with the 155 Howser outfit. Mr. Norman was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church and retired from Western Electric after 35 years of service. He was in the CWA Local 3060 Retirees Union as treasurer as long his health permitted. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Troutman Norman; one daughter, Susan Norman Vickers and twin infants. Surviving are his wife, Thomasine ""Tommie"" Carter Pierce Norman; two daughters, Cindy Wilhoit (Tom) of Albermarle and Carla Morgan of Summerfield; three stepchildren, Dexter Pierce (Becky) of Hamptonville, Bryan Pierce (Kathy) of Chester, VA and Deborah Larrimore (Tommy) of Yadkinville; grandchildren, Krista Plowman, (Shane), Paul Wilhoit (Sherry), Zach, Seth, Noah Morgan and Thompson Vickers; two stepgrandchildren, Stephanie Pierce and Spencer Pierce; four great grandchildren and two sisters, Merdie Harper and Julia Lowermore. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Mark Key, Rev. Andy Lambert, Rev. Mark Norman Vickers and Rev. Gary Mahathey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Mt.
