Vernon Mickey

Mr. Vernon Osa Mickey, 94, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Stokes Co. on April 12, 1928, the son of the late Ira Osa Mickey and Fannie Westmoreland Mickey. Vernon was a true family man who loved Jesus. He was a loving husband who was dedicated to his wife Helen for 75 years. Vernon was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Stanleyville and was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 37 years of service. He was proud that he was retired longer than he worked. In retirement he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, mowing, and traveling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Locile Mickey; three sisters, Kathleen Leach, Joan Wall and Betty Jean Mickey; and a brother, Bobby Mickey. Vernon is survived by his three sons, Christopher L. Mickey (Brenda), Michael Vernon Mickey (Robin) and Wayne Eaton Mickey (Linda); nine grandchildren, Lauren Dudley (Jason), C. Lee Mickey (Kelli), B. Chase Mickey, Brenna G. Mickey, Evan M. Mickey (Anna), Tate A. Mickey (Alex), Lucas J. Mickey (Kristen), Marie Healy (Seth) and John Paul Pardy (Ashley); nine great-grandchildren, Lily Dudley, Addison Dudley, Jake Mickey, Seth Mickey, Annie Mae Mickey, Abram Mickey, Natalie Sellers, Preston Healy and Ava Pardy; two sisters, Judy Williams (Larry) and Carolyn Adkins; and many special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Pinnacle Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Honeycutt and Rev. Terry Rausch officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the committal service in the cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Stanleyville or Pinnacle Baptist Church.
