Vernessa Leola Purser McMillan

KERNERSVILLE-Vernessa Leola Purser McMillan, 85, formerly of Conyers, Georgia passed away Monday, January 12, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born March 24, 1923 in Union Co., NC to the late W. Martin and Ola Baucom Purser where she was the oldest of seven children. Vernessa was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness. She graduated from New Salem High School, and earned a business degree from King's Business College in Charlotte. Vernessa retired from the IRS as a personnel staffing specialist in Atlanta, Georgia after 25 years of employment. During her tenure with the IRS, she staffed the opening of both the IRS Service Centers in Chamblee, Georgia, and Memphis, Tennesse. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Clay Purser. Surviving are one daughter, Judy Rowell and fianc郩 Jim Berry of Kernersville; one son, William Robert ""Bill"" McMillan and wife Pat of Lexington, Georgia; two grandchildren, Jesse Rowell and wife Liz of Chicago, Illinois, Julie Purser and husband David of Kernersville; two great-grandchildren, Charlton Purser, and Nolan Rowell; two brothers, Ray Purser and Pliney Purser both of Monroe; two sisters, Christine Baucom of Monroe, Betty Thomas of Peachland; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday, January 16, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home Kernersville Chapel with Andy Austin officiating. Entombment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12-1:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Breast Cancer Research Fund, Attn: Development & Alumni Affairs Office WFU Health Sciences, Medical Center Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27157.
