After a hard fought battle with cancer, Mr. Verlon Grey Kyle 72, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away August 7, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 19, 1936, in Carroll County, VA to the late Elbert David Kyle and Lola Mae Newman Kyle. Mr. Kyle grew up in Carroll County VA. He was a lover of all sports, but football stole his passion. He played high school football in Carroll County. Verlon received a scholarship as a starting lineman for the VA Tech Hokies and played a variety of positions including quarterback. He was a former member of Fancy Gap United Methodist Church. He since then moved his membership to Ardmore Baptist Church. Mr. Kyle was a member of the Masonic Lodge (Salem 289) and employed by Roadway Trucking Co in his younger years. He founded and retired from V.G. Kyle & Associates as President of the company. Mr. Kyle was passionate about his work, a faithful friend, devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family dearly. Mr. Kyle was preceded in death by his two brothers. He is survived by his wife Margaret Carter Kyle; three daughters, Marty Kyle Norman and husband Donnie of Clemmons, Kay Kyle Barker and husband Larry of W-S, and Kim Kyle Wood and husband Tom of Charlotte; seven grandchildren, Kyle Norman and wife Allie, Brooke Norman, Anna Katherine Barker, Will Barker, Molly Wood, Jack Wood, and Grant Wood; and one great grandchild, Emma Grace Norman. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek. A funeral service will be Saturday August 9, at 11:00 am at Haworth-Miller Silas Creek, with Minister Bill Teague officiating. The interment will follow the service at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. The Family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Eugene Paschold, Greg Robins (PA), Paula Norman (RN), and the 9th west staff at Forsyth Medical Center for not giving up on him.
