It is with hearts full of love and gratitude that we honor the incredible life of Mrs. Verda Idol Hennis, who passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Born on December 7, 1945, in Forsyth County, Verda was the cherished daughter of Charles Clay and Eudora McCuiston Idol.
Verda’s life was a tapestry woven with love, service, and joy. After 35 years of dedicated work at Wachovia Bank, she retired not only having left a professional legacy but also a community of lifelong friendships. Her impact extended far beyond her career, reaching into the hearts of everyone she touched at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a cornerstone of faith and service.
As a founding member of the church’s Food Pantry Ministry, Verda poured her heart into helping others, leaving a lasting legacy of generosity. She also served as Treasurer, coordinated the beloved annual BBQ Supper, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and sang in the choir with a voice full of spirit and devotion. Additionally, she was a member of the National Association of Bank Women (NABM) and the Walkertown Historical Society.
Verda lived each day with a zest for life and a sense of adventure. She and her beloved husband of 59 years, Coy Hennis, Jr., shared countless memories traveling both Domestic & Internationally taking in all the sights and sounds and immersing in the local culture. She enjoyed storytelling festivals and visiting historical landmarks, celebrating the richness of life together. Her gift for hospitality was unparalleled; she welcomed friends and family with open arms and a warm smile, making everyone feel cherished and at home.
Her faith was unshakable and served as a beacon of strength and hope for her loved ones, especially during her courageous battle with cancer. Verda taught us all what it means to walk in faith, even in life’s most challenging moments, leaving an enduring example of grace and perseverance.
Verda’s greatest joy came from her role as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her.
In addition to her parents, Verda is reunited in heaven with her niece, Pamela Yoder. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Coy; her son Tim (and his wife Susan); her four grandchildren, Brandon, Bailey (Chris), Cheyenne, and Tim, Jr.; her nieces, Tammy (Jim), Teresa (Randall), and Joy, with Tammy holding a special and cherished bond with her; her nephews, Aaron, Bryan, Floyd Jr., Johnny Jr., and Michael; in addition to special Friends Jennifer & Craig Moser & countless cousins and extended family members.
A memorial service to celebrate Verda’s remarkable life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Jeff Coppley and Samantha Wesley. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation from 1:30 pm to 2:45 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Food Pantry at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, 2715 Darrow Road, Walkertown, NC 27051, ensuring that Verda’s spirit of generosity continues to touch lives in the community she loved.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home & Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel for their support.
Though Verda is no longer with us, her legacy of faith, love, and service will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
