Vera Maude Lilley Byrd

Mrs. Vera Maude Lilley Byrd, 87, of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at The Oaks at Forsyth. She was born May 29, 1922 in Martin County, the daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel Gurkin Lilley. Mrs. Byrd was a founding member of Ardmore Christian Church where she was active in the Ladies Circle and kept the nursery for many years. Her greatest joys in life were her flower garden and her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wayne Byrd and two brothers, Daniel Taylor Lilley and Simon Lilley. Survivors include two sons, Larry W. Byrd and wife, Doris of Cary and Thomas E. Byrd and wife Donna of Terrell; two daughters, Rose Marie Harrison and husband, Ed of Emerald Isle and Tammy Aull of Charlotte; eight grandchildren, Brian Byrd, Stephanie Neigel, Palmer Harrison, Kenan Byrd, Justin Harrison, Brandon Byrd, Frank Aull, III and Phillip Aull; and four great grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 AM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with David Woolard officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of the Oaks at Forsyth for their loving care shown to Mrs. Byrd during her stay there.
