Velma Sykes Holcomb

Mrs. Velma Lee Sykes Holcomb, age 76 passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Holcomb was born in Forsyth County, October 6, 1937 to Edward and Carolyn Hicks Sykes. She was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church in King and retired from Hanes Hosiery with 22 years of service. In addition to her parents Mrs. Holcomb was preceded in death by one son, Eddie Franklin Holcomb, a grandson, Roy L. Parrish III and one brother, Dean Sykes.

Mrs. Holcomb is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clarence Eugene Holcomb of the home. Three daughters; Deborah (Roy) Parrish, Cathy (Howard) Berry and Lindsay Holcomb. Two sons; Michael Holcomb, Sr. and Michael Holcomb, Jr. Eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Three sisters;
Dorothy Ball, Martha Koulmantas and Judy Wilson. One brother, Edward (Joy) Sykes. Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Holcomb will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt View Baptist Church in King by Pastor Brian Beverly. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall Tuesday evening August 26th from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M.
