Velma Flippin Branscome, 87, passed away Friday July 23, 2010 at Springwood Care with her daughter by her side. She was born October 1, 1922 in Stokes County to William Samuel Flippin and Magnolia Collins Flippin who preceded her in death. She was married to Posey Lee Branscome for 52 years who preceded her in death in 2003. She worked at the family business Konnoak Hills Grocery. She also worked for Arcade Women's Clothing and Mother and Daughter Department Store. She was a member of Konnoak Baptist Church for 50 plus years and attended regularly until her health failed her. She sang in the church choir for many years and helped out wherever needed. She graduated from Griffith High School in 1941, keeping close contact with many of her classmates. She was preceded in death by her husband, Posey, her parents, and a sister, Evola Hege. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie B. Maynard (Steve) of Winston-Salem; two sons, Michael W. Branscome (Linda) of Southern Pines and Butch L. Branscome (Amy) of Charlotte; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00am, Monday, July 26, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. John Bishop officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
