Vaughn Edward Jennings, Jr., 62, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, January 24, 2011, surrounded by family and friends at Springwood Care Center of Forsyth. Edward was born April 17, 1948 in Harmony, NC. Edward received his B.A. FROM Wake Forest University and his JD from Wake Forest University School of Law. Throughout his extensive legal career, Edward worked as an Assistant State District Attorney in the 23rd Judicial District, Assistant U. S. Attorney in the Middle District of NC, and was in private practice for over 30 years. He was a long time member at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Some of his favorite things included being with his family, spending time in the family apple orchard in Wilkes County, hunting, gardening, relaxing at the lake, enjoying bluegrass music, being around his friends and cheering on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. He was an amazing husband, brother, father, grandfather, attorney and friend. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Vaughn Edward Jennings Sr., and Ethel Reid Jennings. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ellen Nanney Jennings, his son Vance Edward Jennings and wife Erin Auld Jennings, and their daughters Riley Grace Jennings and Macie Campbell Jennings; Vaughn Edward Jennings, III, and wife Natalie Grantham Jennings; his daughter Kimberly Ellen Jennings; his sister Ida Grace Jennings Roberts; his nephew Robert Vaughn Powell; Father-in-Law David Powell Nanney, Sr.; Brother-in-Law David Powell Nanney, Jr. and wife Priscilla Justis Nanney, and their children David Powell Nanney, III, Lee Harrison Nanney, and Katherine Morrow Nanney; and extended family. A Memorial Service for Edward will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday January 28, at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem with the Rev. Don Mann officiating. The family will receive friends at the church at 2:30, prior to the service, and also immediately following the service.
