Mr. Vance Edgar Smith, 82, of Winston-Salem passed away Monday, August 9, 2010 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Smith was born in Stokes County on November 24, 1927 to Edgar and Carrie Booth Smith. He will be remembered as a true worker, working until his 80th birthday. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, whom he loved dearly, Pamela Smith Tolley; a brother; and three sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ruth Dillon Smith of the home; a son Jerry Michael Smith and wife Suzanne of Advance; five grandchildren, Brett Vance Tolley of Lexington, Chris Wall and wife Erin and Ashley Hardin and husband Trey, all of Alexandria, VA, and Kevin and Heather Tolley; a son-in-law, Alvin Tolley of Lexington; two great-grandchildren, Witt and Walker Hardin of Alexandria, VA; a brother, Maxie Smith of Martinsville, VA; and a sister, Hilda Simpson of Oak Ridge. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Gardens of Memory of Walkertown with Elder Milton Gunter officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Parkway. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B.
