Vance Bitter Grubbs has left his old address to take a new one with our Heavenly Father. He was born October 31, 1923 to Ruth Bitter Grubbs and Pleas H. Grubbs. He was a licensed building contractor and took pride in the many houses and commercial buildings that he built, which included Food Fair grocery stores, and shopping centers in Rural Hall and Lewisville-Clemmons. Vance always enjoyed playing Rook as well as other card games. In the Fall he looked forward to going deep sea fishing with friends. In earlier years he played football at Old Town High School and wouldn't miss a game of playing softball with New Hope United Methodist Church team for many years. He has been a member of New Hope Methodist Church for over 70 years; where he served as a trustee and built on additions to the old church as well as serving on the Administrative Board, a youth counselor, and was a charter member of the Young Adult Sunday School Class (now Willing Workers Sunday School Class). The members were dear friends and he had many laughs playing jokes with the mongoose cage he built and pretending to become ""sick"". Also had his pockets filled with candy and chewing gum to pass out to all. For many years he belonged to the Old Richmond Grange and the Old Town Civic Club, and held offices in the clubs. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years in WWII. He is the owner of Bethania Business Park. Vance was preceded in death by his parents, and his three sisters and brothers-in-law, an infant daughter, Katy Hope and a son, Mark Vance Grubbs. Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Katy Hauser Grubbs; a son, Michael R. Grubbs (Vanessa); a daughter, Melanie Grubbs Cole; four grandchildren, Heather Cole, Brandon Cole, Molley Kate Grubbs, and McKenzie Lea Grubbs; two nephews and one niece, as well as many dear cousins. We shall always miss his strength and love for family and friends- his animal noises and one line jokes. ""Rest well in our Father's home till we meet again."" Many thanks to all of Vance's caregivers. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, October 22, 2009 at New Hope United Methodist Church with Dr. Pete Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Pfafftown Christian Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
